Prior to the minutes of the meeting held on 30 January 2017 being presented, the question was asked why Councillor Brenton was still sitting on the Committee when the outcome of the Standards Committee Hearing had been quite clear in that Councillor Brenton had breached the Code of Conduct and it had been recommended that he be removed from the Committee.
Councillor Langmead advised that he would refrain from commenting on the matter as he had been Chair of the Full Council meeting at which Councillor Brenton had been asked to leave the chamber. He took no further part in the debate.
The Senior Solicitor advised that the Standards Committee’s recommendation to remove Councillor Brenton from the Committee had been referred to Councillor Brenton’s Group Leader for action. It had to be assumed that no action had been taken in light of the recommendation; therefore, Councillor Brenton remained a Member of the Committee.
The Chair gave all Committee Members an opportunity to express their opinions.
It was proposed by Councillor Boundy, seconded by Councillor Brown and –
Resolved:
That the meeting be adjourned until such a date as the matter could be resolved.
